The recent visit of Afghanistan’s President Hamid Karzai will help to give a new direction to India and Afghanistan relation. In the current changing scenario in Afghanistan, India needs to give a relook and rethinking to its relation with Afghanistan. Geopolitical situation in the region is changing at a very fast pace.

As the US is planning to withdraw its forces along with other NATO forces, it becomes more important to understand the formation of the ruling people of Afghanistan. It seems that US is interested in giving a more say in Afghan matters to Pakistan which indirectly have the implication of giving a reshape to Indian role in Afghanistan.

The issue of power sharing between different allies of Afghanistan has become controversial as a difference has arisen between US and President Hamid Karzai thinking. It seems that for the return of political stability in Afghanistan, it is important for the different ethnic communities to work together for a more peaceful and stable Afghanistan.

The President, Mr. Karzai is trying to develop relationship in different fields with Iran and Russia to create the optional trade routes. Moreover, good relation with its neighbouring countries is a necessity for Afghanistan. Mr. Karzai’s this step will encourage India to come forward with better economic co-operation.

During this meet, India and Afghanistan agreed to simplify their trade regulations and formalities to encourage the trade between the two countries. India may cooperate more on political, economic and social front with Afghanistan in future. There are quite good chances that India may get certain contract offers to explore the unexplored mineral ore areas of potential Hajigak region.

From a long time, India has been one of the primary donors towards Afghanistan's reconstruction. Many Indian companies have established themselves in Afghanistan.

India needs to be cautious while deciding on its role in Afghanistan without affecting its relations with other countries negatively. India also sees Afghanistan as a route to Central Asia.

India is pursuing many social and infrastructural works in Afghanistan and we need to maintain that as we have good relation with Afghanistan from a long time. India should try to expand its role in political, trade, economic and social front.
