It is being decided by the Department of Telecom that 2G spectrum will be auctioned through e-auction. This decision is being taken keeping in mind the verdict of the Supreme Court regarding the 2G scandal case.

The concerned department will held the multiple rounds of the auctions of different areas and it will be based on a reserve price of each area. Although the reserve price of the auction is not being decided till now.

It will be done in such a way that the ministry got maximum price through auction in a transparent way, better 2G spectrum services should be provided and a healthy competition to be encouraged among different companies.

The 2G spectrum will be auctioned for a period of twenty years but this twenty years period will be subject to licensee acquiring a Unified License on expiry of existing license.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered that the auction must be held by the month of August of this year. The ministry’s guidelines are being made public following the above Supreme Court’s order.

We can just hope that this time all the care will be taken and auctions will be done a transparent way, so that the ministry got maximum amount through the auction and the public got good efficient services.
